Alert other boaters and authorities that you need help or have intentionally abandoned your vessel.
As a recreational boater and professional bass fisherman I know the frustration and fear of having your boat/motor breakdown in the middle of the lake. How do I get back to the launch ramp? Will anyone know I am disabled? Can/should I leave my boat? How will water patrol know I am disabled?
After fishing professionally and recreationally for years and seeing first hand a large number of boats become disabled either from craft or motor failure it became apparent some sort of alert message should be available to boaters. Anyone owning a boat knows the potential for breakdown on any given day is high.
Water patrol advises disabled boaters, “if you have to abandon your vessel for any reason, please leave a note or message of some kind on the boat so we will know the situation”.
How many boaters carry a pen/marker and a nice clean piece of paper to write the message and leave it in a clearly visible position on our boats? Available now for the first time is the DISABLED BOAT flag. This professionally designed and clearly visible bright yellow and black lettering message with the universally known red circle and slash through it, can be attached to your stern light via Velcro strips signaling others you are okay and have intentionally left your boat, OR are seeking help in the form of a tow/assistance from water patrol.
Every boater should have one of these flags on board their vessel. The flags are light weight, easily folded and require virtually no space on your boat, however, they can be invaluable or lifesaving when they are needed and THEY WILL BE NEEDED!!!
